0)  Find an available auction unit close to a category marker that best describes what you will auction (or anywhere on the second floor if it will be  an adult-oriented auction). Touch the auction unit and say (chat) the number of days you want your auction to run. You can choose between one and seven days. Rent for the unit is per day. That is, it is cheaper to rent the unit and run your auction for one day as opposed to three days, etc.

1)  Right click the unit and select "Pay" from the pie chart to pay the rent into a rental auction vendor. A popup will open with the amount to pay pre-loaded based upon the daily rental amount multiplied by the number of days you have chosen to run your auction. Click the pay button in this pop up to pay the rental fee, you now have the auction unit for your chosen number of days.

2)  Pic (texture):  [your name]PIC, e.g. "Jane SmithPIC"
Create a texture for your auction that you want displayed on the sign (vendor).  Name the pic [your name]PIC, e.g. Jane SmithPIC. Make sure that you include the space between your avatar's first and last (sur) name. No space however should occur between your last name and "PIC".
Make sure to give your image/pic all permission (right click on the PIC when it is in your inventory, select properties, then put check marks in the modify/copy/resell boxes of the pic's properties).

3)  Notecard:  [your name] anything, e.g. "Jane Smith's Unique Vase"
Create a notecard describing your object(s), and contact information.  Your notecard name should state your name first, and then whatever you wish to add, e.g. "Jane Smith's Mansion". Note the space between your avatar's first and last name! To create  a notecard open your inventory, select "create" from the top menu of your inventory window. Type the information regarding your auction in the body (large text input box, then change the name (small input box on top) from "New Note" to Your Name Anything as described above, and click the save button. The notecard you just created will now be saved in your inventory. Tip: click the recent tab in your inventory to find items you have recently worked with, saved, or created.
     - You can place as many notecards in the vendor as you wish, but try to avoid spam if you want others to take your auction seriously.
     - Make sure to give your notecard all permissions (right click on the notecard when it is in your inventory, select properties, then put check marks in the modify/copy/resell boxes of the notecard's properties).

4)  Auction Object(s):  MUST BE TRANSFERABLE (right click on the object when it is in your inventory, select properties, then put check marks in the modify/copy/resell boxes of the item's properties).  The object(s) you wish to auction may have any name.  If the item is other than an object (e.g. picture, clothes, skin, etc.), place it in a box and give the box the same name as the item.  Then place the box inside the vendor.

Tip: To make a box, go to any area where you have permission to build for example, your own or rented land, a public sandbox (search "sandbox"), or any Second Life area that doesn't show a no-build icon at the top of your Second Life browser window. Click the "build" button at the bottom of your Second Life browser window, aim your wand at the ground and click your mouse. Right click on the box you just created and check the modify/copy/resell boxes of the box's properties. Keep this window open and rename your box from "object" to the name of the item you will place into it. Close the object's window and find in your inventory the item (clothes, redeemable notecard, etc.) that you will be auctioning. Drag this from your inventory onto the box you just built in the last step. Right click the box you just created and dragged the auction item into and select "take" from the pie menu. You now have a boxed item that can be dragged into the auction unit.

     - If your auction consists of more than one object, place all objects in one box, and give the box a general name to represent all of the objects.  Then describe all that the winner will receive on the notecard that you place in the vendor.
     - If your auction is for a service that you will provide, you still need to create an object for the vendor, and for the winner to use to claim their winnings (your service). Go back to the BidSL auction unit you have rented.

5)  Touch the auction unit  you rented and choose "load items". from the menu that will popup. Open your inventory. You will have 60 seconds to hold down the CTRL key and drag your pic, notecard, and object from your inventory onto the vendor.  If your time runs out, just touch the auction unit again and choose "load items" to gain another 60 seconds.  If lag is heavy in the area, give the vendor some time to register the deposit.

6)  When done loading, touch the  auction unit and choose "ready" from the popup menu..  You're done!

7)  If you desire to set a Minimum bid amount, you will need to pay the sign that amount after you have the sign ready.  Your money will be returned to you when someone else bids on your item, or when the auction ends, if no one else has bid.
