Instructions for listing an auction at BidSLTutorial -  selling your items at the BidSL Second Life auction house. Selling  your item, service or land using a BidSL automated auction unit provides a fun and exciting experience for you and the buyer. Putting your object, service, etc. up for auction in a BidSL auction unit is straight forward and the unit guides you along the way. However, as new technology to Second Life,  reading through this guide will make your first few times faster and easier. For the convenience of both veteran and new Second Life users, you will find both a quick guide and a more detailed guide below. The quick guide is also given to you as a note card when you rent an auction unit at a BidSL location in Second Life.

 Some helpful information before we get started with the tutorials:

 The BidSL auction vendor provides:

1)  A method for loading your own texture and auction item (must be in object form).

2)  A method for loading a notecard for your auction item, which is given to anyone who touches the sign.  The object may be no-copy or no-mod, but cannot be no-transfer (no-resell).

4)  Message telling you when someone has touched your rental auction sign and received a copy of the notecard, and when someone has bid on your item.  At the end of the auction period, the board will send message and pay you the highest bid at that time.

5)  The ability to obtain a count of the total times the auction sign has been touched (returns to 0 upon a reload).

To use the BidSL automated auction vendor you will need three things that you can set up before you rent an auction unit:

  1. An image of the item or an image describing/advertisement for the item. This image should be named [your name]PIC, e.g. "Jane SmithPIC". Make certain to leave the space between your Second Life first and last (Sur)names, but do not put a space between your last name and "PIC"
  2. A notecard describing the item and named [your name] anything, e.g. "Jane Smith's Unique Vase"
  3. Auction Object(s):  MUST BE TRANSFERABLE (place check mark in the "Resell/Give away" box of object property).  The object(s) you wish to auction may have any name.  If the item is other than an object (e.g. picture/texture, clothes, skin, service, land, real life item, etc.), place it in a box or place a redeemable notecard (ie. redeem this notecard for Red Dress at Sarah's store)  and give the box the same name as the item.  Then place the box inside the vendor.
         - If your auction consists of more than one object, place all objects in one box, and give the box a general name to represent all of the objects.  Then describe all that the winner will receive on the notecard that you place in the vendor.
         - If your auction is for a service that you will provide, you still need to create an object for the vendor, and for the winner to use to claim their winnings (your service).

Quick Guide

0)  Find an available auction unit close to a category marker that best describes what you will auction (or anywhere on the second floor if it will be  an adult-oriented auction). Touch the auction unit and say (chat) the number of days you want your auction to run. You can choose between one and seven days. Rent for the unit is per day. That is, it is cheaper to rent the unit and run your auction for one day as opposed to three days, etc.

1)  Right click the unit and select "Pay" from the pie chart to pay the rent into a rental auction vendor.

2)  Pic (texture):  [your name]PIC, e.g. "Jane SmithPIC"
Create a texture for your auction that you want displayed on the sign (vendor).  Name the pic [your name]PIC, e.g. Jane SmithPIC.
Make sure to give your pic all permission (put check marks in the modify/copy/resell boxes of the pic's properties).

3)  Notecard:  [your name] anything, e.g. "Jane Smith's Unique Vase"
Create a notecard describing your object(s), and contact information.  Your notecard name should state your name first, and then whatever you wish to add, e.g. "Jane Smith's Mansion".
     - You can place as many notecards in the vendor as you wish, but try to avoid spam if you want others to take your auction seriously.
     - Make sure to give your notecard all permission (put check marks in the modify/copy/resell boxes of the notecard's properties).

4)  Auction Object(s):  MUST BE TRANSFERABLE (place check mark in the "Resell/Give away" box of object property).  The object(s) you wish to auction may have any name.  If the item is other than an object (e.g. picture, clothes, skin, etc.), place it in a box and give the box the same name as the item.

5)  Touch the sign you rented and choose "load items". from the menu that will popup. Open your inventory. You will have 60 seconds to hold down the CTRL key and drag your pic, notecard, and object from your inventory onto the vendor.  If your time runs out, just touch the auction unit again and choose "load items" to gain another 60 seconds.  If lag is heavy in the area, give the vendor some time to register the deposit.

6)  When done loading, touch the  auction unit and choose "ready" from the popup menu..  You're done!

7)  If you desire to set a Minimum bid amount, you will need to pay the sign that amount after you have the sign ready.  Your money will be returned to you when someone else bids on your item, or when the auction ends, if no one else has bid.

=====
NOTES
=====

The sign owner has the power and duty to verify that your object is valid.  They can do so by removing it from the sign, checking that it is as described, and then replacing it.

The object may be no-copy or no-mod, but CANNOT BE no-transfer (no-resell).

Recommended image/pic size = 256x256.

To update your notecard, pic, or sound, touch the sign and choose RELOAD (which deletes all of your items in the vendor except your object, which is returned to you), load all items again, then touch again and choose READY.
